Chattogram: Liberation War, Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk-e-Azam Bir Pratik has announced that coordinated efforts are in progress to alleviate water logging issues in Chattogram city, especially ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. While complete relief may not be possible this year, the government is striving to find a permanent solution to the recurring problem.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Faruk-e-Azam emphasized the significance of public awareness, particularly regarding the disposal of garbage in canals and drains. He said that despite the challenges, including a budget deficit of Tk 54,000 crore, the government prioritizes ongoing projects, focusing on excavation and cleaning works in the city’s canals and drains. He highlighted that Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus has dedicated four advisors to urgently address this issue, with at least one advisor visiting weekly to monitor progress.

The adviser underlined the responsibility of city residents in reducing their own sufferings by avoiding illegal garbage disposal and construction on canals. He warned that legal actions, such as fines and short-term imprisonment, might be considered against non-compliance.

During a meeting with officials from various departments, Faruk-e-Azam commended the Chattogram City Corporation for its progress in maintaining cleanliness under the new Mayor’s leadership. He expressed optimism that continued efforts will make Chattogram a more livable and investment-friendly city. The meeting was attended by several prominent officials, including City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain and others from the city’s administrative and development bodies.
