Dhaka: The Department of Environment (DoE) has issued a directive urging city residents to wear face masks when stepping outside as the air quality index (AQI) has reached a very unhealthy level.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the AQI in the city exceeded 250 this morning, prompting the DoE to recommend that residents wear face masks outdoors. The official release also advised sensitive groups, including the elderly, young children, and those with health issues, to avoid going outside unless necessary.
The release noted that the air quality index fluctuates hourly, often reaching very unhealthy levels in the city and surrounding areas during the dry season.
