Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sajjat Ali today emphasized the necessity of instilling a sense of morality in young students both in classrooms and at home, alongside their regular school studies.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ali highlighted the crucial roles parents and teachers play in teaching children values such as honesty, humility, justice, and respect for elders. He noted that moral education is indispensable for the nation’s development. Speaking at an award distribution ceremony at Rajarbagh Police Lines School and College, he urged parents to address their children’s minor mistakes to prevent more significant errors in the future.

The commissioner also stressed the importance of monitoring the social circles of children, remarking on the influence peers can have. As the Chairman of the college’s Board of Directors, Ali called for attention to be given to the quality of education, linking it to competitive enrolment tests in universities and higher educational institutions. He pointed out that only about 10 percent of students manage to qualify for admission to public universities, including Dhaka University, despite achieving high marks in their school exams.

Ali advocated for a balanced focus on academics, sports, and cultural activities, emphasizing their role in achieving both physical and mental excellence. He also underscored the importance of English language proficiency in addition to Bangla, especially in the context of globalization.

In his address, the DMP Commissioner prayed for the forgiveness of martyrs from the July-August Uprising and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He stressed the significance of education in fulfilling the dreams of the martyrs and in contributing to nation-building by developing students into good citizens. A minute of silence was observed to honor the martyrs of the uprising.

The ceremony was inaugurated by the DMP Commissioner with the release of balloons. The event was attended by Rajarbagh School and College Principal Ahmed Seheli Nazneen, DMP Commissioner’s wife Rahena Sultana as a special guest, DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Hasan Md.
