Chattogram: Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) today revealed that miscreants are attempting to incite unrest within the Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) by disseminating propaganda and rumours.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Raish Uddin, Deputy Commissioner (Crime) of CMP, stated in a press briefing that certain vested groups within and outside the industrial zone have been intentionally spreading rumours about minor issues, aiming to provoke workers and destabilize the environment in the EPZ.
The CMP DC pointed to a recent violent clash between factory workers and police, triggered by rumours of the disappearance and alleged killing of three children inside an under-construction building. These unfounded claims led approximately 200-250 agitated workers from nearby factories to gather in front of the building. Eventually, they stormed the premises, causing damage to the construction workers' shed and office.
The unruly workers also set fire to two motorcycles parked at the site. Law enforcement officers managed to regain control of the situation by dispersing the workers and rescuing the children, who were found in good health inside the building.
In the presence of the rescued children, police handed them over to their guardians under supervision, affirming their safety. CMP has issued a warning to all parties and individuals to desist from spreading rumours and propaganda, urging everyone to maintain a conducive production atmosphere within the CEPZ.
