Dhaka: Speakers at a discussion today underscored the need for reforming the constitution in line with the declaration of the July proclamation. "Revolutions do not adhere to the constitution; history shows that every revolution has dismantled the old and built anew. We too must reformulate our constitution through the declaration of the July proclamation," Justice AFM Abdur Rahman told a discussion on the July Declaration and Constitution.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Supreme Court wing of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee organized the event at the auditorium of Supreme Court Bar Association. Justice AFM Abdur Rahman stated that once a new constitution is formulated through a constituent assembly election, it will have a legal basis. He emphasized that this is crucial, and there is still time to act.
Member secretary of Jatiya Nagorik Committee, Akhtar Hossain, highlighted the necessity of liberating the history of Bangladesh from the control of specific individuals. He stressed that credit should be given to those who have genuinely fought for the country for years. He also mentioned that the new political settlement must ensure that no political party can act against the interests of Bangladesh.
Other speakers at the event emphasized the importance of holding a constituent assembly election, publishing the Declaration of July proclamation, and making a list of all martyrs from the Liberation War of 1971 to the July mass uprising. Lawyer and politician Hasnat Kaiyum, Lawyer Asaduzzaman Fuad, and Jatiya Nagorik Committee Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar, among others, also addressed the discussion.
