Dhaka: The Ministry of Home Affairs today provided financial assistance of Taka 5 lakh to the family of late firefighter Md. Soanur Zaman Nayan. Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) handed over the amount of the assistance to Nayan's father, Md. Akhtaruzzaman, at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat, said a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Senior Secretary of the Ministry, Nasimul Ghani, and the Director General of the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Brig Gen Muhammad Jahed Kamal, were present during the handover. Nayan's only sister, Seema Akhter, and her family members also attended the event.
Firefighter Md. Soanur Zaman Nayan, aged 24, succumbed to his injuries in hospital after being hit by a truck while discharging his duty at a fire accident at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Prior to this recent assistance, the family had already received a cash amount of Taka 1 lakh and an additional Taka 50,000 for burial expenses from the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence on December 26.
Md. Soanur Zaman Nayan hailed from Atpunia village of Barabala Union in Mithapukur Upazila under Rangpur district.
