Four Sentenced to Death, Eight to Life Imprisonment in Sirajganj Farmers’ Murder Case

Sirajganj: A court here today sentenced four individuals to death and eight to life-term imprisonment for the murder of two farmers in Ullapara upazila in 2017. Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-3 Judge M Mahabubur Rahman delivered the verdict at noon with the convicts present, as stated by Advocate Hamidul Islam Dulal, the additional public prosecutor of the district Judge Court.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the individuals sentenced to death are Hasanur Rahman Hasu, M Kauser Ali, M Mouazzem Hossain Rintu, and Jahidul Islam Jalim, all residents of Chakpangasi village in the upazila. The eight individuals who received life sentences are M Motaleb, Rejaul, Saddam, Monir Hossain, Ashraf Ali, Belal Hossain, Dulal Hossain, and Abdul Awual, also residents of the same area.

The prosecution's brief account stated that the convicts attacked and killed farmers Saiful Islam and Mokbul Hossain due to prior enmity on January 21, 2017. Subsequently, a case was filed with Ullapara Police Station involving 51 people in connection with the incident.

Following an investigation, police submitted a charge-sheet to the court on October 19, 2017. After examining 21 witnesses and evidence, the judge found the accused guilty and delivered the judgment.

The court also acquitted 39 individuals involved in the case as the charges against them were not substantiated.
