2 Arrested with Foreign Firearms in Uttar Badda

DHAKA: Police in the capital city of Dhaka have arrested two individuals in possession of a foreign-made pistol and six rounds of ammunition in the Uttar Badda area. The suspects, identified as Md Jewel, 36, and Jewel, alias Christian Jewel, 32, were apprehended following a police operation late Wednesday evening, according to a media release from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrests were made by a patrol team from the Badda police station, acting on a tip-off about the presence of armed individuals near Khanka Sharif Road. The police conducted a raid at approximately 10:15 p.m., during which the suspects attempted to flee but were successfully captured by the officers.



During the arrest, authorities recovered a 9 mm pistol and ammunition from the suspects. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the apprehended men confessed to using illegal firearms to conduct criminal activities in Badda and its surrounding areas. The suspects have a history of criminal behavior and are wanted in two other cases related to the Arms and Narcotics Control Act.



The police have initiated legal proceedings against the two individuals. The arrests underscore ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Dhaka to curb illegal activities and possession of firearms in the region.
