Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has made significant changes in its leadership at the Bangladesh Secretariat, appointing Mohammad Billal Hossain as the new Deputy Commissioner responsible for security. This move replaces M Tanvir Ahmed, who has been reassigned as the Deputy Commissioner of Public Order Management (POM) for the South Division.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the reassignment of security responsibilities was formalized through an office order signed by DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, issued on Sunday. This decision follows a catastrophic fire that erupted in the early hours of December 25 at building number 7 of the Secretariat. The blaze required the efforts of 19 firefighting units and was successfully extinguished after 10 hours of intense work, concluding at 8:05 a.m. on the same day.
In the aftermath of the fire, several investigation committees have been established, including an eight-member high-powered committee led by the Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry. These committees are tasked with determining the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage. The reorganization of security leadership is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance safety measures and prevent future incidents at the Secretariat.
