Concerted Efforts for Welfare of People with Disabilities Stressed.

Rajshahi: Speakers at a post-rally participatory discussion emphasized the need for additional privileges to be granted to people with special needs for their proper rehabilitation and family integration. They highlighted the necessity of holistic and collective efforts from both public and private organizations to ensure the fundamental rights of individuals with disabilities, which are crucial for their social dignity. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion was organized by the District Social Service office and District Administration at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) to mark the 26th National Day of Persons with Disabilities. This year's theme, "Inclusive sustainable development, people with disabilities will move forward with developed leadership," underscores the importance of empowering individuals with disabilities. DC Afiya Akhter and Additional DC Umme Kulsum Shampa addressed the meeting as chief and special guests, respectively, while DSS Deputy Director Has ina Momtaj presided over the event. Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahbuba Khatun and DSS Deputy Director Munira Khatun also spoke at the event. DC Afiya Akhter emphasized that individuals with physical and mental challenges can be mainstreamed and empowered through the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). She urged affluent individuals and philanthropists to support people with special abilities and encouraged those with challenges to prepare themselves for jobs that provide essential services. Other speakers reiterated that people with special needs should not be perceived as a burden but as valuable members of society. They called for all sectors to collaborate in creating a social movement dedicated to the welfare of individuals with physical and mental challenges.
