Dhaka: The delegation of German International Cooperation Society (GIZ) today sought continued cooperation from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in implementing higher education projects here. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the three-member GIZ delegation raised the issue during a courtesy call on UGC Chairman Professor Dr. SMA Faiz at the UGC office this afternoon. Manager of the GIZ Project "Higher Education and Leadership Development for Sustainable Textiles in Bangladesh (HELD)" Dr. Christian Bochmann led the delegation, as mentioned in a release. UGC representatives, including Professor Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, UGC Secretary Dr. Md Fakhrul Islam, Director of the International Collaboration Department Jesmin Parvin, and other officials were present at the meeting. The discussion focused on the 'Higher Education and Leadership Development for Sustainable Textiles in Bangladesh (HELD)' Kick Makes the Difference project and the establishment of a Sustainability Chair at Ahsanullah Science and Technology University, which is financially supported by GIZ. The UGC emphasized the need for increased research support on green textiles and the sustainable clothing industry. They discussed launching an exchange program in Germany, enhancing student opportunities, and providing teacher training support. The GIZ delegation also requested the UGC to evaluate the impact of three ongoing projects being implemented by GIZ.
