Natore: The district administration has taken an initiative of starting a co-operative marketing programme in an effort to sell essential commodities at a fair price. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Natore Asma Shahin inaugurated the programme at district Muktijoddah Complex at around 9.30am today. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, at the market set up by the district administration, beef was sold at Taka 630 per kilogram, and eggs were sold at Taka 43-45 per four pieces. Additionally, live chicken, spices, and different kinds of vegetables are being sold at fair prices in the market. The prices of these essentials are comparatively cheaper than in other markets in the district. This is possible as members of different co-operative associations are procuring goods directly from the producers and selling them in this market, explained Mohammad Hossen Shahid, the district co-operative officer. "The market has started to supply essentials at fair price among the consumers ... So, we are trying to set up su ch markets in line with this concept," the DC stated. She added that if fair price marketing of goods could be achieved through this market, there would be a positive impact on the conventional market, potentially leading to a decline in commodity prices. The co-operative department established the market with the association of the district administration, and it will operate every day.
