Khulna: Police arrested ex-panel Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) S M Rafiuddin Ahmed Rafique from the city's East Baniakhamar Main Road area this evening. Rafique is the elder brother of ex-Army Chief Lieutenant General (Retd) S M Shafiuddin Ahmed. He previously served as the Councillor of the number 27 ward of KCC. Deputy Police Commissioner of KMP Detective Branch (DB) Md Tazul Islam confirmed the arrest. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tazul Islam stated that Rafique is an alleged criminal wanted in a mass killing case lodged with the International Crime Tribunal. In addition, Rafique was wanted on several criminal charges filed at the Khalishpur police station on August 30.
