Khulna: Freedom Fighters in the Batiaghata upazila commemorated the valiant efforts of two local heroes of the Liberation War in an event held on Friday. The remembrance was dedicated to Jyotish Mondal of Sundarmahal village in Surkhali Union and Abdul Aziz of Moukhali village in Chandkhali Union of Paikgachha upazila, both of whom joined the Liberation War at its inception and sacrificed their lives in a significant battle at Baroaria Bazaar on November 29, 1971. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the 54th martyrdom anniversary of these two freedom fighters was marked by the local Muktijoddha, who organized several programs to honor their memory. The commemoration began with a tribute at the monument in Baroaria Bazar, erected in memory of Mondal and Aziz. The event saw the participation of Batiaghata Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hosneara Tanni, Officer-in-Charge (Inspection) of Batiaghata Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman, local freedom fighters, BNP leaders, teachers from Baroaria College, and fami ly members of the martyrs. Following the homage, a reminiscence meeting took place at the Baroaria Bazar premises, chaired by ex-District Muktijoddha Commander Abu Zafar. The gathering included co-fighters of the martyrs, with addresses by the UNO, while BNP Surkhali Union General Secretary Sheikh Masuduzzaman Masud conducted the proceedings. Speakers at the meeting reflected on the significant contributions made by Joytish Mondal and Abdul Aziz during the War of Liberation.
