Dhaka: Environment, Forest, Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced today that the government will declare the date for the national election immediately after the completion of reform works. Speaking at a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy this evening, Rizwana emphasized the government's commitment to finalizing necessary reforms before proceeding to elections. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana elaborated that six reform commissions are expected to submit their reports by December 2024. However, she noted that some commissions have indicated they might require an additional one or two weeks to complete their reports. Rizwana reassured that primary preparations for holding the elections are already in place, including the formation of the Election Commission. During the briefing, Adviser Mahfuj Alam highlighted the significant sacrifices made by the citizens for state reforms, underlining that elections will only occur after these reforms are realized. Rizwana a lso addressed concerns regarding assassination attempts on coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, stating that such matters are being taken very seriously by the government. She affirmed that the government is actively investigating the incidents and has raised the issue of the coordinators' security in the advisers' council meeting. Regarding security in the courts, Rizwana urged everyone to remain calm and avoid engaging in destructive activities, ensuring that the situation remains under control. The press briefing was also attended by Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
