Dhaka: Adviser for the Ministry of Commerce, Sk Bashir Uddin, emphasized the critical role of journalists in the ongoing efforts to construct a dignified society. He made these remarks while distributing stipends among the children of deceased members of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at an event held in the DRU Auditorium in the capital, as stated in a Commerce Ministry press release. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir Uddin expressed concerns over the past 15 years, during which he alleged that a 'culture of criminalization' had taken root in the country. This culture, he noted, has resulted in a heavily divided society, instilling fear across various sectors. He highlighted recent efforts to stabilize prices in kitchen markets, particularly before the holy month of Ramadan, by balancing demand and supply. The adviser called upon media personnel to support these initiatives. Bashir Uddin pointed out the decline in prices of essential commodities such as sugar, oil, and onions, attributing t his to collective efforts. He also underscored the importance of continuous learning, urging students to work diligently to acquire knowledge and achieve their goals. The event, presided over by DRU President Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, featured NRBC Bank Managing Director and CEO Md Robiul Islam and Director and Chairman of Risk Management Committee AKM Mostafizur Rahman as special guests. DRU General Secretary Mohi Uddin delivered the welcome address. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of stipend cheques to the children of deceased DRU members by Bashir Uddin.
