Dhaka: The newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Baharul Alam today instructed police officers to ensure that investigations into cases filed after August 5 are conducted properly to prevent harassment of innocent individuals. Dr. Alam emphasized the importance of withdrawing charges through appropriate legal avenues if they are brought against those who are not guilty. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the IGP delivered these directives to senior police officers during a meeting at the Police Headquarters, which focused on the nation's law and order and security. He urged the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Range Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG), and District Police Superintendents to engage in regular discussions with their forces to enhance morale among police personnel. Dr. Alam reassured that no police member would be unfairly targeted and encouraged officers to build better relationships with the community. He stated that officers should actively listen to public grievances an d take necessary legal measures. The IGP acknowledged the high expectations placed on police during challenging times and urged them to respond to any adverse situations with composure and firmness. Additionally, he called for intensified efforts to recover weapons stolen from police. The meeting, moderated by DIG (Operations) Md. Rezaul Karim, included participation from all metropolitan police commissioners, range DIGs, and district police superintendents via virtual connections. Present at the Police Headquarters were Additional IGPs Md. Golam Kibria, Md. Akram Hossain, Abu Naser Mohammad Khaled, DIG Md. Kamrul Ahsan, and other relevant officers.
