Dhaka: Islamic University, the first public university in Bangladesh established after independence, is set to celebrate its 45th founding anniversary tomorrow. However, the annual vibrant festivities have been postponed as the vice-chancellor, Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, is currently in Indonesia attending a seminar. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the university began its journey with just four departments and has since expanded to 36 departments across eight faculties. A total of 14,678 students have graduated with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Islamic University. The institution currently has 406 teachers, 488 officers, 102 assistant clerks, and 149 general clerks serving the university community. In its academic achievements, the university has awarded 624 PhD and 788 MPhil degrees. Currently, there are 164 PhD and 47 MPhil students enrolled. Traditionally, the university is adorned with vibrant colors every year on its foundation day. This year, in lieu of the post poned celebrations, the university will host a discussion in remembrance of the July-August mass upsurge on November 25, where the vice-chancellor will be present. A cultural function is also planned for the same day, along with an exhibition showcasing the education and research activities of various departments. Despite the postponement of the main celebrations, special 'Dua and Munajat' prayers will take place tomorrow after the Juma prayers at the central mosque and hall mosques.
