Rangpur: Leaders of Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) at a public rally today claimed that fascist regimes have eroded democracy over the past 16 years, leading to increased inequality among the population. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BSD leaders spoke at a rally organized by the Mithapukur upazila unit on the occasion of the party's 44th founding anniversary. The event took place at the highway underpass in Mithapukur upazila, focusing on the impacts of current political policies. The rally, chaired by BSD Mithapukur upazila coordinator Comrade Atiar Rahman, featured speeches from several prominent figures, including BSD Rangpur district convener Comrade Abdul Quddus, district member-secretary Comrade Mominul Islam, and Milanpur Union Krishak Front President Comrade Shah Alam. Comrade Mousumi Akhter Mou, President of the Chhatra Front Carmichael College unit, also addressed the gathering. Comrade Mizanur Rahman, a member of the Mithapukur upazila BSD, conducted the rally. Speakers at the rally highlighted the party's foundation 44 years ago, aimed at organizing the populace against exploitation and discrimination. They emphasized BSD's ongoing protests against rising commodity, oil, gas, and electricity prices, as well as its advocacy for protecting national wealth and resolving crises affecting farmers, workers, and the landless. The BSD leaders pointed out that despite the significant contribution of farmers, workers, and hardworking citizens to the nation's wealth, they lack ownership in the distribution system. Over the 54 years since independence, many farmers have become landless, workers have lost jobs, and students have faced challenges due to rising education costs. The escalating cost of living has left 38 percent of the population unable to afford nutritious food, with education and healthcare becoming increasingly inaccessible to working-class citizens. To address these issues, BSD leaders called for measures including the dissolution of syndicates, price controls, the intro duction of rationing for workers, and the implementation of a proportional electoral system through an announced electoral roadmap.
