Three Sentenced to Death in Kushtia for 2019 Murder During Robbery.

Kushtia: A court here today sentenced three people to death for murdering a woman and her son during a robbery in Doulatpur Upazila of the district in 2019. Additional District and Session Judge Sohani Pushon handed down the verdict to Abu Hanif Mollah from the Joarderpara area, Ali Akber of Sonaikandi village, and Lal Chan Mondol. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court also imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 on each convict. In the event of non-payment, they would serve an additional year in jail. The prosecution detailed that on November 17, 2019, the convicts strangled Sanowara and her son Raj to death during a robbery at their home in Sonaikandi village. Following the incident, Sanowara's daughter lodged a case with Doulatpur Thana, accusing several unnamed individuals. The police submitted the charge sheet on December 27 of the same year. Testimonies from witnesses and substantial evidence led the court to issue the verdict in the presence of the convicts, as stated by Additional Public Prosecut or Khadimul Islam. In addition to the death sentences, the court also sentenced the convicts to life imprisonment under another section of the case, along with an additional fine of Tk 50,000 each.
