Dhaka: Police today arrested three activists of Awami League (AL) for their alleged involvement in killing Akram Khan Rabbi during an anti-discrimination student-people movement in the city's Pallabi area. The arrestees were identified as Shahid, aged 35, Md Faruque Hossain, aged 45, and Mohammad Jalil Bepari, also aged 45. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrests were made by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media and Public Relations Wing. Deputy Police Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman stated that the three AL activists were detained from the Baunia area in Pallabi Thana. The incident that led to these arrests occurred on July 19 when Akram was shot while crossing the road in front of Abul Taleb School at Mirpur-10. Despite being rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he was declared dead by the attending doctors. The case gained further momentum on August 25 when Akram's father, Faruque Khan, officially filed a case with Pallabi Thana, prompting a deeper investigation into the incident. The arrests mark a significant development in the ongoing anti-discrimination movement, highlighting the tensions and violence that have surrounded the protests.
