United Kingdom: The United Kingdom's Indo-Pacific Minister, Catherine West, has expressed her country's eagerness to support the initiatives of Bangladesh's interim government. This includes efforts in restoring peace and order, ensuring accountability, and promoting national reconciliation. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister West emphasized the UK's commitment to backing Bangladesh's interim government during a meeting with Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain. She highlighted the importance of building a democratic future for Bangladesh and reaffirmed the UK's strong ties with the country. Minister West expressed the UK's intent to enhance partnerships in various sectors, including economics, trade, security, migration, and climate change. Responding to questions from the media, Minister West affirmed the UK's expectation for a level playing field for all political parties in Bangladesh. She also addressed the issue of supporting the interim government during its transition period, without di scussing individual cases such as that of BNP acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman. On the topic of the Rohingya refugee crisis, Minister West announced an additional 10 million pounds from the UK to support the construction of shelters, and provision of food, medical supplies, and education for refugee children. This financial aid underscores the UK's commitment to addressing humanitarian needs in Bangladesh. Minister West's visit marks the first by a UK minister since the formation of Bangladesh's interim government. Her discussions in Bangladesh included meetings with Chief Adviser Prof Yunus, student leaders, and political parties to explore avenues for supporting the country's democratic recovery. She also engaged with business leaders to strengthen trade and investment ties between the UK and Bangladesh.
