Chief Adviser Concludes Successful COP29 Participation in Baku.

Baku: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus returned home this evening wrapping up his Baku tour to attend the global climate meet titled “Conference of Parties-29 (COP29)”. “A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the chief adviser and his entourage reached the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here at 8:00 pm,” CA’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, on the first day of his tour to Azerbaijan on November 12, the Chief Adviser had a hectic schedule. He participated in the opening session of COP29 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and engaged with at least 20 prominent leaders from various countries and heads of international agencies. Among those he met were Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Turkish First Lady.

The Chief Adviser also held discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahiyan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobg
ay, and Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel. Additionally, Prof Yunus engaged with the Prime Minister of Belgium, President of Ghana, Prime Minister of Bosnia Herzegovina, President of Rwanda, Prime Minister of Albania, President of Montenegro, Prime Minister of Barbados, Vice Presidents of Brazil and Iran, President of FIFA, and Director General of IOM.

On the second day of the summit, Chief Adviser Prof Yunus delivered a speech at the Opening Session of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit in COP29, advocating for a lifestyle shift towards zero waste and zero carbon to safeguard the planet from climate-related disasters. He also participated in a high-level meeting for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Throughout Wednesday, Prof Yunus attended several events on the sidelines of COP29. On Thursday, he met with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev at the COP29 climate summit venue, further strengthening bilateral relations. Additionally, he held discussions with f
ormer British Prime Minister Theresa May on the sidelines of the COP29. Lu Alckmin, wife of Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, also paid a visit to Chief Adviser Prof Yunus at the COP29 global climate summit venue.
