Pirojpur: Police in a drive arrested a life-term fugitive convict from Nazirpur upazila of the district today. The arrested individual, Md Kuddus Howlader, 56, son of Abdul Mannan Howlader, was convicted in a case under the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act almost 28 years ago, according to a press release from Pirojpur district police.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Howlader had fled the area and gone into hiding following the filing of the case. Subsequently, a Jhalokati court sentenced him to life-term imprisonment on February 2, 1999, along with a fine of Taka 5,000.
The release detailed that a police team, led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nazirpur Thana Mahmud AL Farid, conducted a raid in the Pashchim Baniari area under Nazirpur upazila this noon, resulting in the arrest of Kuddus. He was subsequently handed over to the respective police station for further legal proceedings.
