Chattogram: In a concerted effort to protect the biodiversity of Halda River, the district administration seized 5000 meters of illegal current nets from various areas in Raozan upazila, including Madarsha and Ghordhura, in an overnight operation. The drive, which began at 12:30 am, was led by Executive Magistrate and Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), A B M Moshiuzaman, with the assistance of police, fisheries officials, and members of the Integrated Development Foundation (IDF).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation lasted for five hours and aimed to safeguard the only natural fish breeding ground for carp in Bangladesh. This area, recognized as the mother fish of Bangabandhu Fisheries Heritage Halda River, is crucial for maintaining the river’s dolphins and overall biodiversity.

UNO Moshiuzaman emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to protect this vital ecosystem. He assured that the authorities would conduct regular drives to curb illegal fishing activities and urged the
public to cooperate by providing accurate information to the enforcement team.
