DHAKA: Police in a drive today arrested one person with 107 smuggled mobile handsets and 186 headphones from capital’s Jatrabari area. The arrested was identified as Safi Alam, 34.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a media release from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) stated that a team from the Jatrabari police station intercepted a private car coming from Cumilla. Upon inspection, they recovered the handsets and headphones and subsequently seized the vehicle.
The release further indicated that the mobile phone handsets were brought from India, avoiding VAT-tax, and were believed to be destined for various markets. A case has been filed in connection with the incident.
