Dhaka: The Constitution Reform Commission (CRC) today convened a views exchange meeting with various stakeholders to discuss potential reforms to the constitution. This significant gathering took place in the cabinet room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, where key representatives from civil society were present, including 16 distinct rights groups. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event began with a moment of silence to honor the memory of the martyrs from the recent student-people mass upsurge that occurred in July and August. This poignant gesture set the tone for the discussions that followed, emphasizing the importance of the meeting's objectives. The meeting saw participation from a total of 31 representatives hailing from diverse organizations. These included the Bangladesh Adibasi Forum, Association for Land Reform in Bangladesh, Bangladesh National Women Lawyers' Association, River and Delta Research Centre, Women with Disabilities Development Foundation, Campaign for Popular Education, Ba ngladesh Environmental Lawyers' Association, Naripokkho, Bangladesh Islamic Law Research and Legal Aid Centre, Human Rights Support Society, Ain o Salish Kendra, Change Initiative, Banchte Shekha, Consumers Association of Bangladesh, Hindu Dhormio Kollan Trust, and Bangladesh Intellectual Movement. Presided over by the commission's chairman, Professor Ali Riaz, the meeting also included CRC members such as Prof Sumaiya Khayer, Barrister Imran Siddique, Prof Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Dr Sharif Bhuiyan, Barrister M Moin Alam Ferozi, and Firoz Ahmed. The commission has announced plans to conduct similar meetings with other individuals and organizations in the coming days as part of its ongoing efforts to gather input and insights on constitutional reform.
