Dhaka: The interim government has initiated a training program for 700 students to assist in managing Dhaka's challenging traffic situation. This initiative aims to engage students in traffic management activities to alleviate the city's persistent traffic congestion. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Home Adviser Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) revealed in a recent interview that the students have already received training, and some have been deployed across various parts of the capital. These students will work part-time for four hours during their free time and will receive an honorarium for their services. The initiative is being implemented as a pilot project in Dhaka, with plans to extend it to other cities if successful. Senior Secretary of Public Security Division Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen emphasized the need for expanding road infrastructure, stating that a habitable city should have 25 percent of its area as roads, whereas Dhaka has only 7.5 percent. This shortage is a signific ant factor contributing to the city's severe traffic jams. Efforts are also underway by the chief adviser's office, which has formed a committee to address the city's traffic challenges. Dhaka Metropolitan Commissioner (DMP) Md Mainul Hassan has engaged with bus owners, urging them to avoid practices that exacerbate traffic congestion, such as operating unfit vehicles and improper stopping. The DMP is conducting daily operations to enforce traffic rules and improve street discipline, ensuring a more manageable traffic environment in the city.
