DHAKA: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today announced that the interim government has implemented measures to ensure that Bangladeshi expatriates receive treatment and amenities akin to guests at the nation's airports. "Hopefully, many more steps will be taken so you (migrants) can think that you are at home with peace after coming here. (You can think that) everyone is taking care of you. Everyone is serving you well," he stated during the inauguration of a dedicated lounge for migrant workers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the chief adviser emphasized that migrant workers deserve the respect due to them, marking the inauguration of the Probashi Lounge as an initial step towards this goal. Professor Yunus highlighted the substantial contribution of Bangladeshi migrants through remittances and stressed the importance of honoring them appropriately. He also expressed concern over the misappropriation of funds sent by expatriat es, noting the unfortunate instances of money laundering abroad. Professor Yunus acknowledged the pivotal role migrant workers have played as nation builders, particularly in significant historical events such as the July-August mass uprising. He reiterated the nation's gratitude and commitment to easing governmental services for expatriates, including the issuance of e-passports. The newly inaugurated Probashi Lounge at Dhaka airport is the first of its kind, offering Bangladeshi migrant workers a place to rest and access to subsidized refreshments. Present at the inauguration were Law and Expatriate Welfare Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul and senior officials from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
