Dhaka: Bangladesh’s newly appointed senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin is focused on nurturing the next generation of cricketers to become stars. Salahuddin, who has been a mentor to the country’s cricket icons Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, expressed confidence in the potential of upcoming players to fill the void left by established stars.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin emphasized the importance of persistence and hard work in reaching the level of Shakib, Tamim, and Mushfiqur Rahim. He noted that these players were not top performers initially but achieved success through dedication and self-motivation. Salahuddin, at his first press meet as the national team’s senior assistant coach, highlighted the work ethic of the new generation, stating that they possess the necessary motivation to succeed.

Salahuddin believes that proper guidance can help these players become stars. He stressed the importance of support and effort from both players and management. He also addressed t
he issue of inconsistency among Bangladeshi cricketers, noting that the management is investigating whether the cause is technical or psychological. Salahuddin expressed optimism about resolving these issues with the help of the coaching staff.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has appointed Salahuddin on a five-month contract, introducing the new role of ‘senior assistant coach.’ Despite the presence of foreign coaches in the national team’s coaching panel, Salahuddin’s local expertise is seen as valuable. His responsibilities include supporting the head and assistant coaches and helping players improve both psychologically and technically. Salahuddin, who previously served as an assistant and fielding coach from 2006 to 2010, aims to enhance communication between coaches and players during his tenure.
