Shami Kaiser-Taposh Sent to Jail in Attempt to Murder Case.

Dhaka: Actresses Shami Kaiser and the Chairman of the private entertainment channel Gaan Bangla, Kawshik Hossain Taposh, were sent to jail after their remand concluded in an attempt to murder case related to the Uttara Purba Thana. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka GM Farhan Ishtiaq ordered the duo to be sent to Dhaka Central Jail after hearing arguments from both sides. Sub-Inspector Mrittunjoy Pandit Mithun, the Investigation Officer of the case, presented the accused before the court, requesting their confinement in jail custody until the investigation concludes. The accused's lawyers submitted separate petitions seeking bail for both Shami Kaiser and Kawshik Hossain Taposh, but these petitions were opposed by the prosecution. After considering the arguments, the magistrate decided against granting bail and ordered their detention. Police apprehended Kawshik Hossain Taposh on November 3 from Vatara area in the city, while Shami Kaiser was arrested on November 5 f rom Uttara area. Their arrests were made in connection with an attack on businessman Ishtiaq Mahmud and others on July 18. Mahmud sustained serious bullet injuries in various parts of his body during the incident, which occurred in front of Nawab Habibullah High School at Uttara sector-4. The attack happened amid an agitation program organized by an anti-discrimination students' movement. Mahmud was initially treated at a nearby hospital before being transferred to Evercare Hospital for further care. Subsequently, he filed a case with Uttara Purba Thana on October 29, accusing 126 individuals, including former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.
