DMP Recovers Huge Drugs from Special Check Posts in Old City.

Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has seized 31,000 pieces of Tapentadol and 1,004 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from special check posts in the city's Kotwali and Sutrapur areas. Police also arrested three drug traders at the check posts at that time. They are Sumon Chandra Dutta, 45, Shah Poran, 21, and Nasibur Rahman alias Nasib, 46, a DMP press release said here today. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team of Kotwali Thana set up a check post on Babu Bazar Bridge on Wednesday night and halted a private car. After searching the private car, police recovered two cartons containing 31,000 pieces of Tapentadol tablets worth about Taka 15,50,000 and arrested car driver Shah Poran and its passenger Sumon Dutta from the spot. A case was filed with Kotwali Thana in this connection. The arrested persons confessed to the police that they have been trading the drugs after collecting them from the bordering areas for a long time. The Tapentadol tablet is a listed drug by the Department of Narcot ics Control since July 8, 2020, and drug users take it as a substitute for Yaba tablets. Sutrapur Thana Police, in another drive, arrested Nasibur Rahman from a check post at Hanif Tower and seized 1,004 Yaba tablets from him. The arrested drug peddler told the police that he has been selling drugs, especially Yaba tablets, in the Sutrapur area after collecting them from different areas of the capital. Another case was also lodged with Sutrapur Thana in this connection.
