Previous Misdeeds Will Not Return: DC Afia Akhter.

RAJSHAHI: Newly joined Deputy Commissioner (DC) in the district, Afia Akhter, has affirmed that the misdeeds which occurred during the previous regime will not return. “Victory of the anti-discriminatory student movement has generated scopes for doing better for the society and the nation as a whole and we will do that,” she stated during an introductory and view-sharing meeting with journalists at her office conference hall.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DC responded to numerous queries from journalists, assuring them that all issues will be addressed with special consideration for public welfare in the district. She emphasized the need for monitoring markets to prevent intentional price hikes of essential commodities.

The DC requested full cooperation from journalists to implement activities effectively and successfully. On November 3, Rajshahi district appointed its first female DC and District Magistrate in its 254-year history, with Afia Akhter taking the role as the 127th DC. Before th
is assignment, she served as a zonal Settlement Officer in Chattogram.

Rajshahi district was founded on December 16, 1769, with Mr. CW Bawton Raus as the first DC. Born in Kotwali Thana in Jashore district, Afia Akhter completed her BA and MA in International Relations at Dhaka University in 1998 and 1999. She began her administrative career as an officer through the 25th BCS, with her initial posting at the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner office as an assistant commissioner.
