Dhaka: Nine matches, comprising five boys’ and four girls’ games, were decided on the opening day of the Tasmery Under-14 School Handball tournament held at Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in the boys’ section, Nirjhor Cantonment Public School and College triumphed over Ideal School, Motijheel with a score of 5-2, after leading the first half 3-0. South Point School and College defeated Scholastica (Uttara) 9-6, following a 3-3 draw in the first half. Model Academy secured a 7-4 victory against Wills Little Flower School, having led the first half with 4-2. Narinda Government High School dominated Scholastica (Uttara) with an 18-6 victory, leading at halftime by 3-0. South Point School and College also blanked Cambrian School and College 11-0, taking a 6-0 lead in the first half.
In the girls’ section, Wills Little Flower School bested Uttar Kafrul High School 5-2, after a first-half lead of 3-0. Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Gir
ls’ College outplayed Kadamtala Purbo Bashabo High School and College with an 8-3 win, leading 3-1 at halftime. Heed International School outclassed Uttar Kafrul High School 6-2, with a 2-1 lead in the first half, while Sunnydale defeated Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls’ College 13-3, dominating the first half 9-1.
The tournament was inaugurated by Tasmery and Company owner Md. Selim Bin Baten as the chief guest, with BHF General Secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor presiding. Notable attendees included BHF Vice-President Nurul Islam, tournament committee Chairman Maksud Ahmed, and its Secretary Selim Mia Babu.
A total of 28 school handball teams from Dhaka Metropolis, consisting of 16 boys’ teams and 12 girls’ teams, are participating in the tournament. The event is sponsored by Tasmery Group and organized by the Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF). Boys’ teams are divided into four groups (A-D) and girls’ teams into four groups (A-D) for the competition.
