Dhaka: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has urged all individuals and businesses to submit their Value Added Tax (VAT) returns and coefficient declarations online rather than in paper format. This initiative aims to streamline the process and make tax submission more efficient.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the NBR has identified issues where VAT officials have been requesting hard copies following the online submission of returns and coefficient declarations. The NBR clarified that this practice is not in accordance with legal procedures. Once returns and declarations are submitted online, there is no requirement to provide a hard copy.

Furthermore, the NBR emphasized that there is no obligation for VAT officers to preserve VAT returns, coefficient declarations, and treasury challans. For those who still prefer to submit paper documents, they must do so through the receiving and sending branch of the local VAT circle office. Alternatively, submissions can also be made via post.
