Dhaka: Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam announced today that a general election will be conducted based on national unity following the completion of all necessary reforms. “We got a new Bangladesh after the mass upsurge of students and people. The fascist government has done many irregularities and corruption in the last 16 years. The interim government has started to rebuild the country,” Nahid stated during a meeting with Norway Ambassador Hakon Arald Gulbrandsen at his office in the ICT Division, as per a ministry press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid sought advice and cooperation from Norway for rebuilding the country. The ambassador assured the adviser of full cooperation from Norway in supporting the interim government’s rebuilding efforts. Nahid emphasized the importance of developing relations with Norway, highlighting its role as a development partner for Bangladesh. He expressed hopes for Norwegian investment in Bangladesh’s ICT s
ector to facilitate its growth.
Regarding legislative reforms, Nahid mentioned that the Cyber Security Act would be repealed soon. He added that all laws hindering freedom of expression are under review, with decisions on reforms to be made in consultation with relevant stakeholders. Addressing concerns about minority safety, Nahid assured that minorities in Bangladesh are secure, noting special security measures during last Durga Puja. He criticized the previous government for exploiting minorities for political gain.
Nahid also requested Norway’s assistance in disseminating accurate information about the July uprising, countering negative campaigns abroad. The meeting included discussions on bilateral issues, attended by Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Dr. Md Mushfiqur Rahman, Information Communication Technology Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, and officials from the Norway embassy.
