Hong Kong: Bangladesh suffered a three-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka in the second semifinal of the Hong Kong International Sixes today and failed to make it to the final. Opting to bat first, Bangladesh put up 103 before being all out in the stipulated six overs, but Sri Lanka overhauled the target with one ball to spare.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bangladesh’s journey in the tournament saw them initially facing a setback in the group phase against Sri Lanka. This semifinal was an opportunity for Bangladesh to seek both revenge for the earlier loss and a place in the final. The openers, Jishan Alam and Abdullah Al Mamun, gave Bangladesh a flying start, with Jishan hammering 36 off 11 balls and Mamun contributing 16 off four balls. Saifuddin remained not out with a score of 23 from 12 balls, while Abu Haider Rony added a quickfire 18 off six balls.
Sri Lanka responded effectively, with their openers sharing a 58-run stand that set the foundation for their chase. Opener Sadun Wikradi was instrume
ntal in the win, blasting 50 off 16 balls before retiring, adhering to the tournament rules. Despite Bangladesh’s efforts to stage a comeback with two quick wickets, Sri Lanka managed to secure the win.
Sri Lanka will now face Pakistan in the final of the Hong Kong International Sixes.
