Rangpur: Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), Professor Dr. Md Showkat Ali, emphasized the importance of students’ involvement in extracurricular activities alongside their academic pursuits. He highlighted that skills gained from such activities could significantly benefit students both professionally and personally. This statement was made during his visit to the orientation classes for freshers in various departments of the university.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the university’s departments organized separate orientation sessions to welcome the newly admitted first-year graduation (honours) students for the academic year 2023-2024. During the event, the VC urged students to report any instances of discrimination or ragging immediately to the university administration. To facilitate this, complaint boxes will be installed in every department and residential hall, allowing students to submit their grievances in writing.
Prof. Showkat encouraged the new students to
cultivate habits of regular study, timely class attendance, and punctuality. He also invoked divine blessings and forgiveness for the martyrs of the July-August students-people mass uprising. He specifically mentioned Shaheed Abu Sayeed, stressing that students’ success through learning would honor his sacrifice.
The orientation witnessed the presence of Acting Registrar Prof Md Tazul Islam, Proctor Prof Md Ferdous Rahman, Director of the Office of Student Affairs Dr. Md. Ileas Pramanik, faculty members from various departments, and the newly admitted students.
