Khulna: ‘Traffic Week 2014’ began here today with a theme ‘Nirapad Sarak Nagarik Adhikar, Bastobaone Proyojon Sokoler Angikar,’ The Traffic Division of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) outlined a comprehensive programme in observance of the week to raise public awareness, improve traffic management, and restore order on the city roads. KMP Commissioner Zulfiqar Ali Haider inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. A colourful procession was brought out from Shibbari intersection in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, additional deputy commissioner (Traffic and Protocol) Taslima Khatun, deputy police commissioners Rashida Begum, S M Shakiluzzaman, and Md Tazul Islam, along with KMP officials, students of the anti-discrimination student movement, representatives of NGOs, Nirapad Sarak Chai, and Transport Owners-Labourers organizations attended the event. As part of the ‘Traffic Week 2024’, KMP’s Traffic Division has organised various awareness programmes, including distributing leaflets to d
rivers, passengers, and pedestrians; conducting sessions on traffic signs; raising public awareness about the Road Transport Act; hanging banners at key locations; and holding exchange meetings with workers, bus owners, and students and teachers from different schools, colleges, and universities.
Rover Scouts, Red Crescent, Girls Guide, BNCC members, and students from various educational institutions are also taking part in the week. The collaborative effort aims to foster a safer and more organized traffic environment in Khulna, involving a wide spectrum of community members in its awareness initiatives.
