Dhaka: Country’s fishermen are set to resume hilsa fishing across the country as the 22-day ban on catching, selling, and transporting the national fish will end this midnight. Anticipation is high as the local fishing communities prepare for a busy night ahead, marking the end of the temporary halt that was put in place to protect the breeding cycle of hilsa.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, reports from various coastal areas indicate that fishermen are now diligently preparing their nets and boats in eager anticipation of returning to the rivers. The community is gearing up to catch hilsa, a fish that holds significant cultural and economic importance in Bangladesh.

The ban, which was enforced from October 12 to November 2, was an initiative by the interim government aimed at ensuring the safe spawning of hilsa during its peak breeding period. Authorities imposed restrictions specifically in the Padma-Meghna sanctuary, a key habitat for the national fish of Bangladesh, to support the sustainabili
ty of this vital resource.
