Dhaka: The government has announced the formation of a 17-member committee tasked with overseeing the establishment of the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum. Renowned writer and filmmaker, Dr. Ebadur Rahman, has been appointed as the Convenor of this committee. Additionally, Md Mahfuz Alam, the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant, will serve as the Joint Convenor.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Information and Broadcasting Adviser, Md Nahid Islam, made the announcement during a press briefing held in front of Ganabhaban. The press release from the ministry outlined the committee’s composition, which includes distinguished individuals such as writer and human rights activist Mustain Billah, Jahid Sabuj from the Fine Arts Department of Jagannath University, and Dr. Nurul Momen Bhuiyan from the Anthropology Department of the National University. Other notable members include Tanzim Wahab, a photographer and director at the Shilpakala Academy, writer and researcher Sahul Ahmed Munna, and architect
Marina Tabassum, among others.

The committee is also set to include one or two student representatives at a later stage, as mentioned in the press release. The purpose of the museum is to preserve the memories of the repression faced by students over the past 16 years, along with commemorating their movement and eventual victory.

Md Nahid Islam shared with the media that they are contemplating the construction of a replica of the ‘Ayna Ghar’ (Glass House) within the museum, which will serve as a research center. Md. Mahfuz Alam further emphasized the symbolic destruction of the fascist government’s arrogance when the people entered Ganabhaban on August 5, describing the building as a place of suffering for the common people over the past 16 years.
