DHAKA: The results of the US election will have no impact on Bangladesh or pose any challenge to the US-Bangladesh relations, stated Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief adviser of the interim government. He emphasized that Bangladesh’s diplomatic ties with the United States remain resilient regardless of the electoral outcome.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shafiqul Alam expressed confidence that the strong personal connections of Dr. Mohammad Yunus with leaders in both the Democratic and Republican parties would ensure continued positive relations. Alam was speaking as the chief guest at a debate competition on the US elections’ Impact on Bangladesh, held at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation auditorium.

The debate competition, organized jointly by ATN Bangla and Debate for Democracy, saw the State University of Bangladesh triumph over Green University of Bangladesh in a parliamentary format debate. Alam highlighted that the existing cordial relationship between Bangladesh a
nd the US is poised to elevate, largely attributed to personal relationships and Dr. Yunus’s global influence.

In his speech, Alam reflected on Dr. Yunus’s reception at the UN General Assembly in New York, where he was warmly greeted by global leaders, including those from the US and the EU, acknowledging his role as chief adviser. Alam dismissed concerns about the US election’s impact on Bangladesh, reiterating his belief in the stability of the bilateral relationship.

The US-Bangladesh relationship recently gained attention after a tweet by Donald Trump condemned violence against minorities in Bangladesh while criticizing his opponents Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in a Diwali message. Shafiqul Alam downplayed the significance of Trump’s statement, describing it as a domestic political matter influenced by lobbyists.

Alam concluded by asserting the power of the masses, referencing the July revolution in Bangladesh, and underscoring that no foreign entity can dictate the will of a united populace. The event
concluded with Shafiqul Alam presenting the championship trophy, chaired by Debate for Democracy chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron. The panel of judges included esteemed academics and correspondents such as Professor Dr. Tajul Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, Professor Dr. AKM Mazharul Islam, and others.
