Dhaka: Detectives of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested former Housing and Public Works Minister RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury from the Mirpur area, said police on Friday morning. The arrest occurred on Thursday night, confirmed Reazul Karim Mallik, additional police commissioner (intelligence) of the DMP.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the former minister is an accused in several murder cases and he will be presented before a Dhaka court with a request for remand, informed Reazul Karim Mallik. Muktadir was elected four times from the Brahmanbaria-3 seat as an Awami League candidate.
He began his career by joining the Bangladesh Civil Service as an admin cadre in 1983. In 1986, he worked as a personal assistant secretary to the then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina.
