Kathmandu: Minister for Water supply Pradeep Yadav has directed authorities under the ministry to dispatch technical teams for water testing across the country, considering the likelihood of waterborne disease.
Minister Yadav has also directed the authorities to distribute ‘bleaching powder’, Piyush, and other water purification tablets considering the contamination due to floods and landslides in and around water sources.
Purna Prasad Upadhyay, Head of Water Quality Improvement and Service Regulation Department, said that the Department has already started distribution of water purification kits in Kathmandu.
After monitoring and inspecting the water treatment center at Sundari Jal, Minister Yadav instructed to restart the treatment process and supply drinking water to Kathmandu after the turbidity of the water decreases.
Meanwhile, according to the preliminary estimate of the ministry, the recent floods and landslides has caused damage to property worth more than one billion rupees in the drinking water
sector of the country.
