The Jatayatibadi Chattra Dal(JCD) and the Anti- Discrimination Student Movement today strongly condemned and protested the incidents of mob killings on Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University campuses, which left two people dead. The BNP's student wing JCD also demanded exemplary punishment of those involved in the incidents at a press conference today at the office of Dhaka University Journalist Association (DUJA) while the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement condemned the incidents through a statement. "Some terrorists who were involved in BCL's politics have now taken up the control of university's halls in the name of general students. They sometimes form mobs and take the law into their own hands," JCD president Rakibul Islam Rakib told the press conference. "Tofazzal was beaten by a group of students led by Jalal Ahmed, a student of the Physics Department who resigned from the post of deputy secretary of science and technology affairs of Chhatra League recently," he added. The JCD leaders also requested the university administration to take necessary measures so that no one can do this in the coming days through 'Mob' in the guise of common students. Rakib said, "The main objective of the students' mass movement and our 16- year long anti-fascist struggle were to eliminate all injustice, corruption, mismanagement and the culture of injustice from this country. Even if a person is a criminal, there is no way to kill him." "These two incidents of yesterday proved that student politics is not the main problem of the campus. But the system created during the last few years of fascist regimes has created a murderous mentality here. So the whole system needs to be reformed," he added. JCD central general secretary Nasir uddin Nasir, DU unit president Gonesh Chandra Roy Shahos and general secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon also addressed the conference. Meanwhile, the Anti-discrimination student movement in a statement said, "The incidents are very miserable and unfortunate that dem onstrate a severe disregard for fundamental human rights and principles." The student movement also called for immediate prosecution of those responsible and urged the interim government, students and country people to be vigilant against extrajudicial killings, torture, and mob justice. "The alarming incidents of extrajudicial killings and torture over the past 15 years reflect a significant deficiency in the country's judicial system and the rule of law," added the statement.
