One gets life-term in drugs case in C’nawabganj

A Chapainawabganj court on Thursday

afternoon sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a case filed over

drugs smuggling in 2019.

The convicted was Monirul Islam, 54, son of Saidur Rahman of Belepukur area

under Chapainawabganj municipality. Another accused of the case Md. Ujjal,

44, was acquitted as the charge against him was not proved.

The court fined him Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer six months more in

jail.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Md. Rabiul Islam gave the verdict in

presence of the convict.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that acting on a tip-off, an operation

team of the RAB-5 conducted a raid at Dariapur truck terminal area in

Chapainawabganj municipality on February 1, 2019 and arrested Monirul Islam

with 1.050 kilograms of heroin but his cohort Ujjal managed to flee from the

scene.

Sub-inspector (SI) Anup Das of RAB filed a case with Chapainawabganj Sadar

Model Police Station on the same day.

2019.

After a long hearing, the court announced the verdict, the court sources

added.
