Sagarmatha known to world due to Sherpa’s bravery: Minister Pande

Kathmandu, Sept 1: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pande credited Sherpa’s courage to bringing global attention to the Sagarmatha.

At a programme organized by Khijidemba rural municipality of Okhaldhunga district at Boudhha, Kathmandu to honour the Everest summiteers on Sunday, Minister Pande acknowledged the pivotal role and contributions of the Sherpas to mountain climbing and further popularizing the highest peak, Sagarmatha (The Mt Everest) in the world.

“Mountain climbing has been easier and successful due to the contributions of Sherpas from fixing rope in the mountain to ushering the climbers to the summit,” the Minister noted.

On the occasion, Minister Pande feted 46 Sherpas hailing from Khijidemba rural municipality for their successful ascent of the Sagarmatha.

Honoree Everest summiteers ranged from the youngest climber from Okhaldhunga district, Jambale Sherpa, to 22 times Everest summiteer from the district, Jangbu Sherpa.

On the occasion, Kunga Sherpa was annou
nced as the rural municipality’s Goodwill Ambassador.
