Twenty-six cases of dengue infection have been confirmed in Baglung district since July 16 this year. Of them, 24 are from Galkot municipality alone.

Public Health Inspector at District Health Office, Dev Prakash Ghimire, shared that Galkot is now at high risk of dengue and scrub typhus. He mentioned that around one dozen of people suffering from dengue and scrub typhus were undergoing treatment at Galkot municipal hospital.

Similarly, dengue and scrub typhus are confirmed among five persons every day. Chief of Municipal Health Section, Suhil Poudel, said dengue infection has been detected on 41 persons so far since mid-July. Seventeen cases of scrub typhus have been recorded in Galkot so far.

He opined that although most of the infected ones have normal health and staying at homes, those having critical health condition are undergoing treatment at municipal hospital.

“We had launched search and destroy campaign from mid-June, but dengue infection is on rise now,” Poudel worried.

The municipal hospital
lacked the facility of blood test for dengue and scrub typhus till two years ago.
