Khulna WASA to sell safe drinking water from August

The Khulna Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA)

will set up two treatment plants in the city for supplying safe drinking

water among its city dwellers.

In this regard, Khulna WASA and Drinkwell, a water supply company, signed an

agreement on Tuesday at a hotel in the city in order to ensure safe drinking

water supply facilities for the city dwellers, WASA official told BSS today.

“By using ATM cards, the city dwellers can collect safe drinking water from

the two treatment plants. Each customer will collect two to 20 liters of

drinking water by a Jar or container (bottle) with a cost of Taka 0.60 (per

liter),” the official added.

Managing Director (MD) of Khulna WASA Md Abdullah and Assistant manager

(Operation and Co-coordinator) of Drinkwell Md Saddam Hossain Rony signed the

agreement on behalf of their respective sides.

Superintendent Engineer of Khulna WASA Khan Selim Ahmed and other officials

of both the organisations were present during the agreement signing ceremony.

Defense Station area adjacent to WASA pump house and Sonadanga WASA pump

house adjacent to truck terminal area in the city by this month,” Md Abdullah

said while talking to BSS today.

He said the city dwellers could collect safe drinking water from the first

week of upcoming August.

The Khulna WASA MD, however, said WASA will open more 50 safe drinking water

treatment plants phase by phase in future.

Drinkwell has been starting to deliver clean drinking water since 2015 across

the country, Md Saddam Hossain Rony said, adding: “Earlier, we have run water

supply activities at Dhaka, Chattogram and Rajshahi to ensure safe drinking

water to people.”
