81 New Books Make Their Debut at Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Seventh Day

Dhaka: A total of 81 new books arrived on the seventh day of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair today. The fair is being held from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a discussion titled ‘Remembrance: Sanjida Khatun’ was held at the main stage of the fair at 3:00 pm. The session was presided over by academician Professor Bishmadev Choudhury, while researcher and essayist Mofidul Hoque presented the keynote paper. Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam took part in the discussion.



In his paper, Mofidul Hoque mentioned the difficulty in defining Sanjida Khatun’s extensive engagement in various fields of society and culture. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive evaluation of her impact on people’s hearts. He added that throughout her life, she cultivated cultural harmony and developed a distinct identity.



Hoque further elaborated on her lifelong pursuit of self-development, which was closely intertwined with the idea of collective progress. Her multidimensional personality, shaped by the breadth of her work, created a rare harmony between her inner and outer life.



Professor Mohammad Azam highlighted Sanjida Khatun’s complete, refined, and dignified life. He noted her enjoyment in discussing music and her seamless blend of roles as a teacher, essayist, critic, and analyst. Her contributions to music practice, institutionalization, and socialization are among her foremost achievements.



Professor Bishmadev Choudhury remarked on Sanjida Khatun’s dedication to sharing her knowledge with her students, never compromising on determination, conviction, and responsibility. Her life and works serve as an exemplary model for younger generations.



During the ‘Lekhok Bolchi’ (Author Speaks) session, fiction writer Nasima Anis discussed her books. A cultural program featuring poetry recitation was also held at 4:00 pm.



The fair will resume tomorrow from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A discussion titled ‘Birth Centenary: Sukanta Bhattacharya’ is scheduled for 3:00 pm at the main stage, presided over by poet Abdul Hye Sikder, followed by a cultural program at 4:00 pm.
